NexGen Syngas Technologies helps clients convert complex process technology into executable, financeable projects - accelerating the realization of competitive, low-carbon industrial assets, from concept to operation.

NexGen Syngas Technologies —
Technology Advisory & Project Development

NexGen Syngas Technologies is a specialist consultancy for the hydrogen and synthesis gas (syngas) value chains and adjacent clean molecules.
We advise across the full hydrogen spectrum:
- gray (SMR/ATR)
- blue (SMR/ATR with CCUS)
- turquoise (pyrolysis)
- green (water electrolysis)
as well as downstream ammonia, methanol and fertilizer production.
Our work blends deep process know-how with rigorous project delivery experience; helping owners, developers, lenders, and EPCs make bankable decisions and move confidently from concept to execution.

Technology Advisory

  • Techno-economic assessments & feasibility for H₂, NH₃, urea and integrated syngas complexes, including process selection (SMR/ATR/POX/pyrolysis/electrolysis), heat-integration, CO-Shift, CO₂ capture options and air separation units (depending on process).

  • Technology benchmarking & validation - screening licensors and emerging solutions (e.g., methane pyrolysis, SOEC), pilot/demonstration scale-up paths, and readiness/risk profiling to de-risk commercialization.

  • Energy transition & decarbonization strategies - end-to-end pathways to lower carbon intensity (CI), including blue H₂ with CCUS, electrification, efficiency upgrades, and carbon program development where relevant.

  • Carbon management - capture technology selection, integration into process, transport & storage interface definition, and early views on crediting frameworks to support investment cases.

Project Development
(FEL 1–3 / FEED)

We apply disciplined Front-End Loading to mature large industrial assets:

  • FEL-1 (Concept study): clarify business drivers and off-take, define viable technology routes and site constraints, produce order-of-magnitude CAPEX/OPEX and Class V estimates to enable option selection.

  • FEL-2 (Pre-FEED): develop the Basis of Design, utilities/offsites and plot plans, update Class IV/III estimates, run sensitivity cases, and build a risk-informed execution strategy. Project execution planning - including modularization studies (stick-built vs. PPMOF) - is embedded to address site labor availability and cut risk.

  • FEL-3 / FEED readiness: define process/utility packages, licensor alignment, and execution contracting strategy; deliver decision-quality cost and schedule with independent estimate review/benchmarking (incl. Aspen Capital Cost Estimator) and formal risk analysis.

  • FEED oversight / Owner’s Engineer: close scope gaps, protect operability/constructability, align change control, and prepare for EPC tendering and financial close.

Execution Support

  • Owner’s Engineer & Project Management Support - second-line reviews across design, procurement, and contracting strategies to reduce cost/schedule risk and strengthen governance through to start-up.

  • Cost & schedule risk analysis - quantified risk registers, Monte Carlo where required, and integrated mitigation plans;

  • PDRI-based scope maturity checks and stage-gate readiness.

  • Interim leadership - experienced project, construction, and commissioning management to stabilize teams or accelerate critical phases.

  • Workshops & organizational development - targeted sessions from HAZID/constructability to cross-functional FEL alignment and executive decision forums.

Typical Deliverables

  • Technology screening and Techno-Economic Analysis models with Carbon Intensity / Life Cycle Assessment.

  • Licensor long-list/short-list and evaluation matrices.

  • Basis of Design, battery-limits definitions, utilities/offsites strategies, and modularization concept packages.

  • Class V–III estimates, CAPEX/OPEX, independent estimate benchmarking and risk-adjusted contingencies.

  • Execution and contracting strategies through FEED and EPC handover.

  • CCUS integration studies and carbon program development roadmaps aligned with investment cases.

What Sets NexGen Technologies Apart

  • Pure-play hydrogen and syngas focus with hands-on design, construction, and operations experience - bringing practicality to advanced process choices.

  • Over a century of experience together with our consulting partners.

  • Independent and technology-agnostic, enabling objective recommendations across gray/blue/turquoise/green H₂ and NH₃/fertilizer chains.

  • Bankability mindset - outputs calibrated for lenders and investment committees, not just engineers.

  • Execution-first orientation - early attention to constructability, modularization, supply chain, and contracting to compress schedule and reduce risk.
